Baseball uses 10-run fifth in win over Park University-Gilbert

TUCSON, Ariz.—The Jimmie baseball team used a 10-run fifth inning to break open Wednesday's game against Park University-Gilbert and went on to a 17-4 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jordan Singleton and Julian Romero had RBI singles as the Jimmies led 2-1 after two. Singleton drove in Chase Burke in the top of the first while Romero brought in Triston Madison in the second to extend the Jimmies' lead.
  • Romero made it 3-1 in the fourth inning when he singled to center to score Ben Swennumson.
  • Park made it a one-run game with a lone run in the bottom of the fourth.
  • UJ's bats came alive in the fifth, with a grand slam by Ryan Muizelaar and a bases-clearing double by Swennumson accounting for seven of the 10 runs in the inning.
  • Singleton, Varen Sabino, and Will Bachman each had an RBI for Jamestown as they added four more runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 17-3 game.
  • The Buccaneers added one run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 17-4.
  • Muizelaar batted 3-for-3 with 4 RBI and two runs scored. Singleton was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Romero finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and two runs scored.
  • Alex Alva and Isaiah Roebuck also had two hits each.
  • Kai Mayfield (2-0) got the win, pitching 4 1/3 innings and striking out four.
UP NEXT
  • The Jimmies are off on Thursday and return to action on Friday in Tucson with a doubleheader against Ottawa (Ariz.) University beginning at 1:00 PM Central.
