Jimmies Fight Hard but Come Up Just Short in NSAA Championship Showdown!

Madison, S.D. — The University of Jamestown women's basketball team fought valiantly but ultimately came up just short in the NSAA championship game against Dakota State University at the DSU Fieldhouse. The game was a nail-biter, filled with tension as both teams exchanged leads. Despite their efforts, the final score stood at 65-59.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jimmies came out hot, knocking down back to back three pointers by Kate Cortes and Samantha Paulsen to take a 6-0 lead over the Trojans. 
  • The Jimmies were in complete control in the first quarter ending it in the lead 18-14 
  • In the second quarter a three pointer coupled with four free throws the Trojans were able to overtake the lead 21-20 with 7:20 remaining to play 
  • A Kate Cordes three pointer with 1:55 left before half gave the Jimmies back the lead 26-25
  • The lead flip flopped the last minute of the quarter but a layup by Angela Slattery gave the Trojans a one point lead 29-28 going into the half 
  • In the third quarter a three pointer by Jayden Wiest and two point jumper by Jessika Lofstrom handed the Jimmies their largest lead of the game of seven 41-34 with 6:07 left in the quarter  
  • The Trojans responded on a 13-2 run to end the quarter and regain the lead back 47-43 heading into the fourth 
  • The Trojans opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run to gain their largest lead of the game of 11 54-43 with 7:14 remaining
  • A Kate Cordes three pointer brought the Jimmies within four with 1:49 remaining but with time running out the Jimmies had to resort to fouling and the Trojans made their free throws 
  • The Jimmies had two players in double digits Kate Cordes led Jamestown with 16 points and Jessika Lofstrom had 12 points  
  • Cordes, Megan Oswald, and Jayden Wiest led the Jimmies with three assists respectively 
  • Oswald also had a team high of seven rebounds

  • The Jimmies wait to see if they get a bid into the NAIA National Tournament. Selection Show will be held on Thursday March 6, 2025.
