MINOT, N.D. -- The University of Jamestown softball team opened its season Tuesday evening with a doubleheader against Minot State University. The Beavers took both games, winning 5-4 and 6-2.

GAME ONE
- The teams were scoreless through the first three innings before the Jimmies got on the board in the fourth. Amanda Burch and Tori Olson drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to account for the first two UJ runs.
- After MSU made a pitching change, Sidnie Aasen followed with a two-run double, making it 4-0 in favor of the Jimmies.
- Jamestown kept a 4-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth, when the Beavers rallied with four runs of their own, all unearned, to tie the game.
- A two-out single in the bottom of the seventh drove in the winning run for Minot State.
- Hope Ransome (0-1) took the loss for the Jimmies despite striking out 10 while allowing just one earned run in 6 2/3 innings in the circle.
- Aasen finished 2-for-2 at the plate and reached in all three of her at-bats.
GAME TWO
- Kayla Quintanilla drove in Lauren Weigel with a single to right center in the top of the first, giving the Jimmies a 1-0 lead.
- The Beavers tied the game with a single run in the bottom half of the first and added another run in the bottom of the second to pull ahead 2-1.
- Maddie Spaeth singled with two outs in the top of the third, scoring Kylie Yanzuk to bring UJ level at 2-2.
- Minot State took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth and plated three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-2 win.
- The Jimmies finished with 8 hits in game two. Quintanilla was 2-for-3 at the plate and Weigel's double was UJ's lone extra-base hit.
- Abby Blair (0-1) gave up six runs on seven hits in six innings, walking two and striking out two.
