MINOT, N.D. – In a game that featured blistering offense from both sides, the University of Jamestown women's basketball team came up on the short end of a 97-88 shootout against Minot State University on Thursday night at the MSU Dome.
Despite shooting over 52 percent from the field and dominating the interior, the Jimmies (3-3, 1-1 NSIC) could not overcome a barrage of three-pointers from the Beavers, who connected on 18 shots from beyond the arc.
Jamestown found significant success attacking the rim, racking up 52 points in the paint compared to just 24 for the hosts.
Two Jimmies eclipsed the 20-point mark with highly efficient performances. Allie Berns led the way with 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting while grabbing five rebounds. Samantha Paulsen matched that efficiency, also going 9-of-11 from the floor to finish with 22 points, five rebounds, and a team-high five steals.
Daviney Dreckman added 14 points and five boards, while Jessika Lofstrom chipped in 12 points to round out the double-figure scorers for UJ.
While Jamestown controlled the inside, Minot State (4-5, 1-1 NSIC) did their damage from deep. The Beavers shot 50 percent (18-of-36) from three-point range. Tiyahna Trottier led all scorers with 29 points, hitting 5-of-6 from downtown.
UJ started slowly, trailing 18-13 after the first quarter, but found their rhythm in the second. Jamestown scored 21 points in the frame but went into the halftime break trailing 43-34.
The Beavers seized control in the third quarter, exploding for 33 points to extend their lead to 76-59 heading into the final ten minutes.
Jamestown refused to go quietly, mounting a furious rally in the fourth quarter. The Jimmies outscored Minot State 29-21 in the final frame, fueled by their pressure defense and inside scoring. However, the deficit proved too large to overcome as the Beavers held on for the conference victory.
