BILLINGS, Mont. — The University of Jamestown women's basketball team suffered its first setback of the season Friday night, falling 72-56 to Montana State University Billings at Alterowitz Gymnasium.
The Jimmies, now 2-1 on the year, struggled to overcome a difficult first half in which the Yellowjackets built a double-digit lead they would not relinquish.
Turnovers proved costly for Jamestown. The Jimmies committed 24 turnovers on the night, which MSUB converted into 34 points. The defensive pressure from the hosts limited the Jimmie offense early, as Jamestown trailed 37-18 at halftime and faced a 31-point deficit heading into the final period.
Despite the deficit, the Jimmies refused to fold. Jamestown dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Yellowjackets 23-8 over the final 10 minutes. The late surge showcased the team's resilience, though the early hole proved too deep to climb out of completely.
Daviney Dreckman paced the Jimmie offense, finishing as the only player in double figures with 13 points. Dreckman was efficient from deep, connecting on 3-of-5 attempts from beyond the arc.
Allie Berns contributed on both ends of the floor, tallying nine points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots. Julia Thoms provided a spark off the bench with eight points and a team-high three steals in just 12 minutes of action. Haidyn Crockett also chipped in eight points and dished out a team-high three assists.
Jamestown controlled the glass, outrebounding MSUB 34-30. Samantha Paulsen helped anchor the rebounding effort with a team-high five boards.
The Jimmies finish their weekend in Billings on Saturday, when they face Simon Fraser (B.C.) University at 1:00 p.m. CT/12:00 p.m. MT
