Jimmies fall to Marauders despite late offensive surge

JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- The University of Jamestown football team struggled to slow down the University of Mary Marauders in a 44-22 home defeat at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

UMary's offense was potent throughout, piling up 523 yards of total offense while controlling the clock for over 36 minutes. Marauder quarterback Ryan Blair threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Xavier Brackenridge added 119 rushing yards and a score.

After falling behind 27-0 at halftime, the Jimmies (1-4 overall, 1-4 NSIC) showed resilience, outscoring the Marauders (3-3, 2-3 NSIC) 22-17 in the second half.

Quarterback Cole Hentges led the rally, throwing for two touchdowns and totaling 210 passing yards. Hentges had a hand in all three touchdowns in the second half. Tight end Jordan Theisen hauled in a 2-yard pass in the third quarter for the Jimmies' first score, then wide receiver Nate Burke caught an 11-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter. Hentges capped off a final drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, followed by a successful two-point passing conversion.

Wide receiver Erastus Antsino was Hentges' primary target, recording seven receptions for 84 yards, including a game-long 45-yard catch.

The Jimmies managed 279 yards of total offense, but struggled to match the Marauders' offensive output and time of possession (36:48 to Jamestown's 23:12).

Defensively, linebacker Gunner Stephens and defensive back Ryan Beams led the way with six tackles (five solo) each. Defensive lineman Trayten Johnson recorded UJ's only sack of the game, resulting in an 11-yard loss. Additionally, the defense successfully forced two Marauder fumbles, with defensive back Hershell Jefferson recovering one of them.

Jamestown travels to Minot State University next Saturday to take on the Beavers at 2:00 p.m.
