CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Jamestown women's soccer team secured their first conference victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Minnesota Crookston Friday afternoon at UMC Soccer Field.
The Jimmies and Golden Eagles played an even opening half, with both sides trading chances. Jamestown's backline, led by Marisa Brown, Maggie Perryman, and Langley Grow, kept Crookston from converting despite the hosts firing six shots in the first 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Skylar Lind came up big with three first-half saves to keep the match level at the break.
The breakthrough came in the 61st minute when Nellie Brown scored her first goal of the season. Brown finished a well-worked play set up by Julliet Lopez and Bella Perez, putting Jamestown ahead 1-0.
From there, the Jimmies held strong defensively as Minnesota Crookston pushed for an equalizer. Lind added another save in the second half and the Jimmies' defense absorbed late pressure, including a pair of Golden Eagle shots in the closing minutes.
Lind finished with four saves to earn the clean sheet, while Brown's tally stood as the game-winner. Jamestown recorded three shots on goal, converting on their best opportunity of the afternoon.
Jamestown returns to the pitch on October 5 for a 1 pm matchup with MSU Moorhead.
