#24 Jimmies Level Series with Win Over the Comets

Jamestown, N.D — The #24 ranked University of Jamestown women's basketball team defeated Mayville State University 81-70 Friday afternoon at the Harold Newman Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jimmies came out in the first quarter hot scoring the first 12 points of the game 
  • The Jimmies ended the quarter leading 22-8 
  • In the second quarter the Comets came within 10 with a three pointer by Misti Zempel with 3:29 to play 
  • The Jimmies than went on an eight point scoring streak led by Kate Cordes with five to end the first half 
  • The Jimmies looked good to start the third with Jessika Lofstrom hitting a three pointer at 7:24 giving the Jimmies their biggest lead of the game of 20 
  • However the Comets did not go away easy and made a surging comeback only missing two shots in the third to shrink the Jimmies lead to only three 60-57
  • The beginning of the fourth was a back to back battle with both teams trading shots 
  • With 8:15 left to play the Jimmies went on a 12 point scoring streak led by Jayden Wiest six points to elevate the Jimmies to a win  
  • The Jimmies had four players score in double digits 
  • Samantha Paulsen led Jamestown with 18 points followed by Kate Cordes with 14 points, Jessika Lofstrom had 13 and Megan Oswald with 11 points 
  • Kate Cordes also had 10 rebounds giving her a double double  
  • Cordes also had a team high of four assists, and Megan Oswald recorded three steals
