Second Half Surge Lifts #6 Trojans Past #24 Jimmies

Jamestown, N.D — The #24 ranked University of Jamestown women's basketball team falls to #6 Dakota State University 74-72 Saturday afternoon at the Harold Newman Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first quarter was a back and forth battle between the Jimmies and the Trojans  
  • The Jimmies then were finally able to find some cushion at the end of the first with two made free throws by Hannah Hagel and a three pointer by Samantha Paulsen to take a 21-16 lead 
  • Kate Busek opened up the scoring in the second quarter with a three pointer for the Jimmies but was answered back with two three pointers from Dakota State to close the gap to 26-24
  • Jessika Lofstrom than caught a hot hand scoring the next nine points and leading the Jimmies to their first double digit lead 35-24
  • The Jimmies came out at the half still with a hot hand to go on a 5-0 scoring run lead by a three pointer by  Paulsen and a two pointer by Kate Cordes extending to their largest lead on the night 48-34 at 8:48 
  • The Trojans were not done yet and went on a 22-10 scoring run fueled by Tabor Teel shooting 2-2 from the field and 2-2 behind the arch to now only trail by two 58-56 to end the third 
  • The Trojans continued their hot streak into the fourth quarter making back to back three pointers to go on a 10-0 run to overtake the lead 68-60 with 4:27 remaining 
  • The Jimmies tried to mount a comeback going on a 8-0 run to end the game but the lead was too great to overcome  
  • The Jimmies had four players score in double digits 
  • Kate Cordes led Jamestown with 23 points followed by Jessika Lofstrom with 13 points and Hannah Hagel and Samantha Paulsen with 12 points each 
  • Kate Busek and Lofstrom each had seven rebounds 
  • Hannah Hagel passed out two assists, and Busek recorded two steals
