Jimmies Fourth Quarter Surge Secures Conference Victory

Jamestown, N.D — The University of Jamestown women's basketball team defeated Bellevue University 73-65 Friday afternoon at the Harold Newman Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jimmies had an impressive start to the game. Shooting five three-pointers in the first six minutes to gain an impressive 20-8 lead with 3:04 left in the first quarter 
  • Kate Cordes led the way with nine points and  shooting 3-3 from behind the arch.
  • The Bruins did not go away easily and went on a 7-2 run to end the first quarter making it a 22-15 game
  • The Bruins continued their hot streak led by Kaylee Denker with nine points to go on a 12-3 run and coming within one point of the lead 28-17
  • The Jimmies than answered back with five points of their own with a three pointer by Kate Cordes and two-pointer from Hannah Hagel 
  • The Bruins than finished the second quarter on a 10-4 scoring run leaving the Jimmies leading 36-37 at the half
  • Kate Cordes opened up the second half with a basket extending to a three point lead 
  • The Bruins answered back scoring seven straight points to take the lead 44-39 
  • A three pointer by Kate Busek and a free throw by Jailyn Martinson helped regain a 47-46 lead 
  • The Bruins battled back with five points going into the fourth with a 51-49 lead
  • The Jimmies than started the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run fueled by Hannah Hagel's six points to pull back ahead to a 59-53 lead
  • Kate Cordes than had a game sealing three pointer at 1:31 which sealed the game for the Jimmies making it a 69-61 game 
  • Kate Cordes led Jamestown with 23 points followed by Hannah Hagel with 11 points 
  • The Jimmies had four players with five rebounds 
  • Cordes passed out six assists, and Hagel and Jessika Lofstrom each had two steal each
