BISMARCK, N.D.— The University of Jamestown football team took on the University of Mary in the 2024 season opener Thursday evening, falling 23-6 to the Marauders at MDU Resources Community Bowl.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Marauders capitalized on three Jimmie miscues in the first half, including a pair of interceptions returned for touchdown, to take a 16-0 halftime lead. Jamestown's defense held UMary to 92 yards in the opening thirty minutes, but UJ's offense managed just 81 yards while not advancing past the Marauder 38-yard line.
- UMary found the end zone early in the third quarter on a 68-yard pass to push their lead to 23-0, but the Jimmies got on the board in the fourth quarter. On third-and-12 from the UJ 45, Johnny Grann found Ethan Hoffman for a 50-yard gain, then one play later Gavin Blomdahl took a handoff from Grann and ran the five yards to paydirt to make it 23-6.
- Jamestown finished with 317 yards of total offense, with 242 of them coming through the air. Grann was 15-of-32 for 213 yards passing and Nick Martinez completed five of 10 passes for 29 yards. Cody Pellaton led Jimmie receivers with four catches. Colton Schumacher caught three passes for 61 yards, while Isaiah Roebuck and Carlos Julian both had three receptions. Zach Hammett led UJ with 25 yards rushing on eight carries.
- Mason Parker led the Jimmie defense with eight total tackles, followed by Jed Rantz with seven and Kyle Williams with six. David Diaz Jr. recorded UJ's lone sack and Parker Chaffee had the Jimmies' only interception.
FOR THE FOES
- UMary quarterback Sofian Massoud completed 21 of 25 passes for 178 yards with one touchdown and an interception.
- Andrew Trandahl caught six passes for 29 yards while Karsyn Jablonski's one catch resulted on a 68-yard touchdown.
