The University of Jamestown baseball team opened its 2024 spring schedule by splitting a pair of games Saturday in Kansas City, Mo., losing 5-0 to Clarke (Iowa) University and winning 5-4 over Baker (Kan.) University, improving their record to 9-1 overall.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Ryan Muizelaar's second-inning single and Isaiah Roebuck's third-inning triple were the only base hits for the Jimmies in a 5-0 loss to Clarke University.
• Luke Zimmer (2-1) struck out six in 5 1/3 innings while surrendering only two runs (one earned) on five hits.
• The game was scoreless until the Pride broke through with a single run in the fourth. They would later add another in the sixth and three more in the seventh.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Jett Nelson, Ben Patton, and Chase Burke each drove in a run as UJ took a 3-0 lead after batting in the top of the second.
• Baker plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to cut the Jimmie lead to 3-2, and the score remained the same until the top of the fifth.
• Burke led off the inning with a double, then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Isaiah Roebuck. A sacrifice fly by Triston Madison brought Burke home to make it 4-2.
• The Wildcats answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth to once again cut UJ's lead to one run.
• Burke's two-out solo home run in the top of the seventh gave Jamestown a 5-3 lead as Baker came to bat in the bottom of the seventh.
• Connor Fortier came on in relief in the bottom of the seventh and promptly struck out the leadoff batter, but then allowed a home run and a walk before being replaced by Jack Howard. With the tying run at second and only one out, Howard struck out the final two hitters to record the save.
• Cade Torgerson (4-0) started on the mound and pitched four innings, striking out four and giving up two runs on four hits.
• Burke finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI.
