Jimmies take No. 17 Dickinson State down to the wire

JAMESTOWN, N.D.— The University of Jamestown football team gave No. 17 Dickinson State (N.D.) University all they could handle Saturday afternoon, falling 35-30 to the Blue Hawks at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • DSU opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 12-yard pass from Will Madler to Semaj Clark with 8:32 left.
  • Jamestown answered on the next drive as Johnny Grann found Nate Burke for a 9-yard touchdown pass, tying the game at 7-7. Grann completed all 4 pass attempts on the drive for 67 yards, including a 45-yard strike to Burke on the play prior to the touchdown.
  • On the first play of the second quarter, Braden Zuroff ran three yards for a touchdown to put DSU ahead 14-7.
  • The Blue Hawks extended their lead on a three-yard touchdown run by Darion Brown with 4:39 in the first half, making it 21-7.
  • Just as it looked like the Jimmies had lost some momentum, Grann engineered another scoring drive, connecting with Isaiah Roebuck for a 17-yard score to trail 21-14 going into halftime.
  • UJ received the second-half kickoff and went 60 yards in eight plays, with a 24-yard run by Zach Hammett tying the game at the 10:40 mark of the third quarter.
  • DSU responded with a 12-play, 75-yard drive that ended with Madler throwing a three-yard pass to Gage Gilbert, giving the Blue Hawks a 28-21 lead.
  • The next Jimmie drive resulted in Aanon Peterson's 22-yard field goal, cutting the DSU advantage to 28-24 with 13:32 left in the game.
  • Madler looked to have delivered the knockout punch for the Blue Hawks, finding the end zone after a 10-yard run with 7:21 to go put the Blue Hawks up by 11.
  • Jamestown took over with 1:53 to play at their own 21-yard line, and Grann threw a 44 yard pass to Erastus Antsino to get the Jimmies to the DSU 35.
  • Grann hit Roebuck for a 17-yard gain, then after two incompletions, found Roebuck for 18 yards and another touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed, and DSU led 35-30 with 1:18 remaining.
  • An onside kick attempt went out of bounds, and the Blue Hawks ran out the clock for the win.
  • Roebuck set a new Jimmie record with 17 catches and finished with 166 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
  • Burke grabbed six passes for 110 yards and a touchdown, and Antsino hauled in three passes for 56 yards.
  • Hammett carried 15 times for 73 yards with a touchdown.
  • Grann was 32-of-49 passing for 372 yards and three touchdowns. His 32 completions were a new career high.
  • Jed Rantz led the defense with 7 tackles, followed by Parker Chaffee with 6.
