Jimmies rain threes to secure road win against University of Mary

Box Score

Bismarck, N.D. – The University of Jamestown men's basketball team secured a double-figure win on the road against the University of Mary Marauders. Anthony Walters led the Jimmies with 35 points and went six for seven behind the arc. Owen Hektner also hit six threes for the Jimmies and followed Walters with 22 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a jump shot from the Marauders, Hektner hit back-to-back threes. Cole Glasgow followed and scored two layups, giving the Jimmies a quick lead of 10-2.
  • The remainder of the half was a three-point frenzy for the Jimmies, with three from Walters, one from Ayden Stainbrook, one from Silas Bennion, and another two from Hektner.
  • The Marauders managed to stay in the game despite the Jimmies power outside the arc, only trailing 32-40 to end the first half.
  • In the first, 27 of the Jimmies 40 points were from threes, and their percentage was 64.3%.
  • Hektner proved his hot hand was not a fluke when he started the second half the same way he started the first with back-to-back threes, giving the Jimmies a quick double-figure lead. He and Walters had the next seven points to extend the lead to 53-39.
  • The Marauders put up a fight and outscored the Jimmies in the following minutes to get within three (64-61) with 6:45 to go.
  • But the Jimmies found their groove again, and Walters hit seven straight to build back their lead. He tagged on another five before calling it a night, and the Jimmies left with an 82-69 victory.
  • Glasgow grabbed eight rebounds for the Jimmies, and Will Cordes followed with seven. The Jimmies passed out 21 assists, shot 50% on field goals, and hit 15 threes for 57.7%.
