VALLEY CITY, N.D.-- Tom Hager recorded his 800th career win as head coach of the University of Jamestown baseball team as the Jimmies defeated Valley City State (N.D.) University 2-1 in 12 innings Wednesday evening at Charlie Brown Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a two-out double by Jaden Babiuk in the bottom of the second, Daegen Morcom followed with a single to bring home the game's first run.
  • Jamestown had runners on first and third in both the first and fourth innings, but were unable to push a run home until the top of the fifth.
  • Ryan Muizelaar led off the inning with a double and advanced to third after a sacrifice bunt attempt resulted by Ben Patton resulted in Patton reaching on a fielder's choice.
  • Alex Alva flew out to left field, but the ball was deep enough to score Muizelaar on the sacrifice fly and tie the game at 1-1.
  • Ethan Krupp worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth to keep the game even, then Hayden Brown escaped another bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the ninth that sent the game to extra innings.
  • Luke Zimmer came on in relief of Brown in the tenth and walked Morcom, who then moved to second on a groundout. A passed ball allowed Morcom to take third base, but Zimmer struck out Judson Seliskar and Jett Salonek as the score still remained 1-1.
  • Pinch-hitter Riki Okamoto was hit by a pitch to start the 12th and moved to second on a wild pitch. The next two UJ hitters lined out, but Triston Madison delivered a single to score Okamoto with the go-ahead run.
  • VCSU had the tying run at third with two outs, but Zimmer once again got Seliskar to strike out swinging to end the game.
