MAYVILLE, N.D.—Alex Alva went 3-for-6 and drove in three runs and Chase Burke hit a three-run home run as the University of Jamestown baseball team defeated Mayville State University 13-1 Tuesday afternoon at Scott Berry Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Jimmies hung five runs on the Comets in the second as Jackson Bonneville, Alva, Chase Burke, Triston Madison, and Jordan Singleton all drove in runs.
• Hayden Brown brought home another run for UJ as they extended their lead to 6-0 in the fourth.
• Ben Patton singled home Bonneville and Alva followed with a double to score Patton in the fifth.
• Brown came home on a double steal in the top of the sixth for a 9-0 lead.
• MSU's Riley Rankin hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh for the Comets' only run.
• After Alva singled to score Bonneville and move Julian Sansores to second base, Burke homered to push the score to 13-1.
• Cade Torgerson retired 17 of the first 18 batters he faced, allowing just a third inning walk before Marcus Hughes singled with two outs in the sixth for Mayville State's first hit.

FOR THE JIMMIES

• Torgerson (3-0) got the win after pitching 6 1/3 innings and striking out eight. He allowed just one run on three hits and threw 57 of his 84 pitches for strikes.
• Burke led UJ with four RBI and also swiped a pair of bases.
• Madison, Brown, and Jett Nelson all had two hits.

• Jamestown (6-0) heads to Valley City State (N.D.) for a 6 p.m. single nine-inning game Wednesday. A Jimmie victory would be the 800^th in the career of head coach Tom Hager.
