The University of Jamestown football team saw its bid for three consecutive victories upended Saturday afternoon, losing 25-13 to No. 22 Dordt (Iowa) University at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Defenders led 5-0 in the first quarter after recording a safety and a 41-yard field goal by Stephen Leinen.
- Jamestown got on the board with Aanon Peterson's 20-yard field goal with 2:12 left in the first quarter.
- UJ's scoring drive covered 56 yards on six plays, 47 of them coming on a pair of Ty Monson completions to Isaiah Roebuck that put the Jimmies on the Dordt 7-yard line.
- Dordt found the end zone on a one-yard run by Brendan Pieper with 5:29 left in the half. Leinen's extra point made it 12-3 in favor of the Defenders.
- Jamestown added another field goal by Peterson, this time from 36 yards out, to cut Dordt's lead to 12-6 with 1:47 left in the second.
- The Defenders went 68 yards in 84 seconds, with Kolson Kruse connecting with Isaac Looker on an 11-yard scoring pass to make it 19-6 with 16 seconds before halftime.
- UJ narrowed the gap with just under six minutes left in the third quarter. Monson tossed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Dawson Schmidt, with Peterson's extra point bringing the Jimmies within 19-13.
- The big play of the drive was a 49-yard pass from Monson to Erastus Antsino, taking Jamestown down to the Dordt 5-yard line.
- Leinen's second field goal of the game, a 45-yarder, extended Dordt's lead to 22-13 at the 2:14 mark of the third.
- The only scoring in the fourth quarter came on a 23-yard field goal by Leinen with 12:27 left in the game.
FOR THE JIMMIES
- Nearly all of UJ's offense came through the air, with Monson throwing for 252 yards on 20-of-32 passing.
- Micah Madyun led Jimmie receivers with six catches. Roebuck finished with four grabs for 63 yards, while Antsino had a team-high 77 yards receiving on three catches.
- Hershell Jefferson picked off two passes and Xander Jarosh intercepted another.
- Parker Chaffee, Jackson Walters, and Jed Rantz all tied for the team lead with six total tackles.
FOR THE DEFENDERS
- Kruse completed 13-of-22 passes for 129 yards and led Dordt with 85 rushing yards.
- Looker caught five passes for 42 yards and Cade Rohwer had 59 yards receiving on four catches.
- Isaac Kacmarynski posted eight total tackles.
