Austin Rene, Benji Miller tie for 1st at Jimmie Fall Classic

JAMESTOWN-- Austin Rene (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) and Benji Miller (SR/Rugby, N.D.) joined University of Manitoba's Aaron McIntyre in a three-way tie for the individual top spot at the Jimmie Fall Classic, which wrapped up Monday at Jamestown Country Club.

The three golfers finished at even par 144, with Rene shooting a tournament-best 4-under par 68 on Monday. Rene finished with a 76-68, McIntyre 75-69, and Miller 73-71.

University of Manitoba won the team title by seven shots (583-590) over the Jimmie team of Rene, Nathan Kapaun (SR/Fargo, N.D.), Nolan Frank (SR/Sartell, Minn.), Jacob Rice (JR/Mitchell, S.D.), and Zach Gomez (FR/Westminster, Colo.).

Kapaun tied for 6th at 4-over par 148 (75-73) and Frank also finished in the top 10, tying for 9th at 5-over 149 (74-75). Rice tied for 12th at 6-over 150 (76-74) and Gomez came in 21st at 13-over 157 (75-82).

The Jimmie team of Miller, Keagan Lindsoe (JR/Three Forks, Mont.), Brook Bergh (SO/Havana, N.D.), Brandon Stahlhut (SR/Jamestown, N.D.), and Christian Madden (JR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished fifth. Lindsoe was 6-over par 150 (73-77) to finish tied for 12th.

Bergh tied for 27th with his 19-over 163 (79-84), Stahlhut tied for 30th at 20-over 164 (84-80), and Madden tied for 33rd at 22-over 166 (82-84).

Riley Akervik (FR/Sauk Centre, Minn.), playing as an individual, was 38th at 37-over 181 (92-89).

Jamestown will compete at the North Star Athletic Association Fall Conference Championship next Monday and Tuesday at Bully Pulpit GC in Medora, N.D.
