ABERDEEN, S.D.-- The Jimmie men's and women's track and field teams recorded 32 top five finishes and had a national qualifier at the Northern State University Twilight Meet on Friday.
Kaiann Arellano (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) qualified for nationals in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing second in 14.99 seconds. Her time was just .05 behind Rhyan Pettaway of South Dakota, and is the fourth-fastest time in Jimmie history.
Hannah Christenson (SO/Rugby, N.D.) and Rachel Heuchert (SR/Browerville, Minn.) ran to a dead heat in the 400 meter dash, with both crossing the finish line in 59.83 seconds. Kylee Voigt (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) was fourth in the crowded finish with a time of 60.55 seconds.
Madelaine Rue (FR/Frazee, Minn.) won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:14.38. Arellano took top honors in the long jump with a height of 1.60m (5 feet, 3 inches).
On the men's side, Matt Young (SO/Woodland, Wash.) and Andrew Hornung (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) finished 2-4 in the 800 meters. Young's time was 2:00.88 and Hornung finished in 2:01.96.
Ed Mata (JR/Alamo, Texas) and Chris Peterson (JR/Velva, N.D.) also had a 2-4 finish in the high jump, with Mata clearing 1.85m (6 feet, 3/4 inch) and Peterson 1.75m (5 feet, 8.75 inches).
Both teams will compete in the Sioux City Relays in Sioux City, Iowa, April 21-22.
