The Jimmie women's softball team improved to 14-11 on the season by winning two of their three contests in Great Falls (Mont.) on Saturday.
After sweeping a pair of contests over the Great Falls Argos and the Mayville State U n ive r s i t y Comets on Friday, Jamestown College split a pair against the Argos and drilled the Comets 11-2 on Saturday.
The Jimmies started Saturday with an 8-7 win over the Argos (21-13) at 11 a.m., before turning away Mayville State (3-14) in six innings and finally falling to the Argos 4-3 to cap the weekend trip out west.
Jamestown College stats of its game vs. Mayville State were made unavailable, but the Comets didn't really give themselves a chance as they committed University of nine errors in the field. The Jimmies posted a pair of doubles, a triple and a stolen base in the game, while the Jimmies' starter went all six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out four.
Two of those hits given up by the Jimmies were a pair of solo home runs to Katrina Newman and Alexxa Sanabria, which accounted for all of the Comets' offense in the 11-2 loss. Newman went 3-for-3 at the plate.
The Jimmies are scheduled to play the Comets again today in Portland (N.D.). But that, which has been the case all spring, is entirely up to Mother Nature.
The Jimmies got the day off to a fast start — scoring four runs in the top of the first — but nearly gave the game away at the end.
Leading the Argos 8-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh, JC starter DJ Johnson allowed three runs to score before Emily Snow was called on in relief. Snow retired all three batters she faced, helping the Jimmies hold on for the onepoint victory.
Senior catcher Kristi Michaud and senior left fielder Sarah Heinemann produced the bulk of the offense for the Jimmies. Heinemann was 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Michaud (1-for-3) also homered and drove in three runs.
The Jimmies' Courtney Van Den Bussche doubled and went 3-for-4 from the lead-off spot. Senior shortstop Rachel Ivelia also doubled (1-for-3) and scored three times for the Jimmies.
Johnson struck out three in six innings of work and didn't walk a batter.

They made a game of it late, but a three-run top of the sixth by the Jimmies came up just short of claiming a fivegame weekend sweep.
Jamestown College's bats were silenced a bit in the final game of the weekend, as they mustered just four hits in the finale. The Argos scored twice in the first, once in the third and once again in the fourth to lead 4-0.
Michaud drove in a pair in the sixth, and Heinemann drove in another, to cut the lead to one, but it wasn't enough. Great Falls' Alex Lowry homered twice and went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs, as the Argos salvaged one of three games against Jamestown College.
Van Den Bussche, Kate Johnson, Heinemann and Michaud accounted for the Jimmies' four hits — all singles — in the game. Other than the hiccup in the sixth, the Argos' Keeley Van Blaricom was tough in the circle, allowing three earned runs on just four hits in seven innings of work.
Snow gave up the four runs scored by the Argos, as she went the first 3 2/3, allowing 10 hits and walk.
