Lydia Franson finished in ninth place to lead the University of Jamestown women's cross country team to a 7
th-place finish at the Augustana Twilight Meet Friday night at Yankton Trails Park.
Franson finished with a time of 17:41.9 in the 5-kilometer course (5:42 mile pace). The Minnesota native finished in ninth place overall, fifth among non-NCAA Division-I student-athletes, and fourth among racers at Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schools. UJ finished in seventh place out of the field of 28 teams, notching a team score of 268. They were just ahead of Doane University (275), but quite a bit behind sixth place University of Minnesota Crookston (239). The University of South Dakota won the team title with a score of 33 after placing five runners in the top 11. South Dakota State University finished second at 63.
Including Jamestown, 10 NSIC cross country programs were at the Augustana Twilight Meet. Four finished ahead of the Jimmies, those being Winona State University (3
rd), hosting Augustana University (4
th), Minnesota State University (5
th), and Minnesota Crookston (6
th). UJ beat Northern State University (9
th), Wayne State College (17
th), the University of Sioux Falls (18
th), St. Cloud State University (19
th), and Southwest Minnesota State University (23
rd).
Geneva Timmerman (South Dakota) won the individual title by quite a large margin with a time of 16:59.0. Winona State's Stella Rusch finished in second, crossing the finish line in 17:10.1.
The Jimmies will be back at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls three weeks from now on Friday, September 25 for the Augustana Invitational.
