JAMESTOWN, N.D. — A pair of first-half goals by Dakota Wesleyan put the University of Jamestown men's soccer team in an early deficit Saturday afternoon, and the visiting Tigers went on to record a 3-0 victory at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.
The Jimmies (1-3-3) conceded their first goal after a misplay in the back line. Luis Waeschle intercepted a pass attempt in the six-yard box and found Maximilian Nolle, who put a tap-in past UJ goalkeeper
Valon Ismaili to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 28
th minute.
DWU extended their advantage to 2-0 in the 44
th minute as Korbinian Rieder headed Jonas Keinz's throw-in past Ismaili.
After battling through several DWU attacking sequences, the Jimmies starting building more of their own chances after halftime. UJ put together a run of offensive chances that included two corner kicks, followed by three shots and two more corners.
Ethan Smith rounded out the scoring in the 70
th minute, assisted by Rieder, with a shot from 20 yards out that found the upper right corner of the goal.
DWU finished with the edge in total chances, taking 16 shots and putting eight on goal, while the Jimmies had eight shots with two on frame, all coming in the second half. Ismaili made five saves in goal for UJ.
Nuutti Norhomaa led the Jimmies with three shots, while
Joshua Jackson and
Finley Comstock each put one shot on goal.
The match also included a steady stream of fouls, with Jamestown called for 23 fouls and the Tigers for 18, and each side received two yellow cards.
Carter Hanson and Joseph Valler combined to record a clean sheet for the Tigers, with Valler saving the two shots on goal he faced in the second half.
The Jimmies travel to Nampa, Idaho, to face Northwest Nazarene University on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m.
