Jamestown, N.D. – The University of Jamestown men's soccer team will host Senior Day in their home finale against the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers Saturday afternoon.
"We've had a week to prepare, which is good because we needed it," head coach
Justin Gilfert said. "To prep for just one game this week is huge because we can focus on what we need to fix and continue to make our strengths better."

The Teams
Jamestown comes into the game against DWU with a record of 1-2-3 as they look for a win on Senior Day. Last week, the Jimmies took a trip out east to play both St. Cloud State University and Northern Michigan University. On Wednesday, September 9, UJ took down the Huskies 2-0 by two goals from
Nuutti Norhomaa and a 4-save clean sheet by
Valon Ismaili as the Jimmies got their first win of the season. Saturday, September 12 was not the same story against Northern Michigan where Jamestown was downed 7-1.
Johannes Kappeler scored his first career goal against the Wildcats.
The freshman Norhomaa leads the Jimmies with three goals on the season while also recording an assist.
Andrei Filho has a goal plus an assist while
Saif Ghodhbani is tops on the team with two helpers. Every single minute in net has been played by Ismaili with the junior netminder owning a 2.5 goals-against average, a .746 save percentage, and two shutouts.
The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers have had only a few games up to this point, being 0-2-1 on the season. DWU lost to Bellevue University on the road in their season opener, then lost again to Rocky Mountain College at a neutral site last Saturday. Most recently, the Tigers drew 2-2 with South Dakota Mines in a road matchup Monday. In a similar fashion to when Jamestown played the Hardrockers, DWU conceded the first two goals of the game, but then scored two themselves en route to the 2-2 tie. Coben Colson and Jonas Luedemann were the two goals scorers in that game and goaltender Carter Hanson made four saves on six shots faced. Both the Hardrockers and Tigers each registered six shots on goal.
The Tigers were 8-11 last season, but 6-4 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, earning the 5-seed in the conference tournament and falling to Morningside University in the quarterfinal round. This year, DWU was selected to finish sixth out of 11 teams in the GPAC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll.
"We know what we'll expect from DWU this weekend," said Gilfert. "We'll finalize some small things within the team and then hopefully get another big bounce back win tomorrow after coming off a loss."
Historical Matchups
Jamestown and Dakota Wesleyan have played each other just about every year in the past, particularly when the two schools were in the GPAC together. 2025 was the first season since 2007 there was no contest between the Jimmies and Tigers in men's soccer.
Jamestown owns the upper hand with a 10-3-4 record over Dakota Wesleyan which includes a 5-1-3 record on home turf. The last time the Tigers took down Jamestown was in 2012. The past 13 matchups have resulted in three ties and 10 UJ wins. August of 2024 was the last time these teams played resulting in a 1-1 draw at Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium.

Following Senior Day, the Jimmies head to the Pacific Northwest where they will play their first future-GNAC opponent, Northwest Nazarene University, on Saturday, September 26 at 2 p.m. MDT (3 p.m. CDT).
