St. Paul, Minn. – The University of Jamestown women's soccer team was downed by the Concordia St. Paul Bears, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in the Twin Cities.
The Jimmies move to 1-3-1 and 1-1-0 in the NSIC ahead of their home opener next Friday. CSP moves to 2-0-3 and 1-0-1 in the conference.
Jamestown was trailing early with Sophia Haase scoring for the Bears in the 3
rd minute. Haase was not finished yet either as she scored again in the 17
th minute and then again in the 25
th minute as Jamestown was down 3-0 early on.
However, not even two minutes after Hasse got her second goal, the Jimmies pushed down the field. With the ball loose in the CSP box, a Bears clear attempt was blocked by Jamestown and ended up to
Julliet Lopez near the side left corner. Lopez dribbled by a defender, and took a sharp-angled shot from the left corner of the box. Everyone just watched as the ball was beautifully placed into the top right of the net. Concordia netminder Sydney potter dived for it, but could not reach it as the Jimmies got the game to 3-1.
Vega Canada had another shot on net in the final seconds of the first half which supplemented Lopez's shot as the only other one on net in the half. The Bears had 10 shots on goal and three corner kicks.
Possessions largely belonged to CSP in the opening part of the second half, with
Taylor Musser needing to make three saves in the first eight minutes.
Kyah Gabel and
Julliet Lopez had two shots in the 63
rd and 68
th minutes, respectively.
The Bears scored another goal in the 85
th minute, essentially putting the game away.
Lucia Serrano had a shot in the last few minutes, then the Jimmies got a corner kick, but the final chance was called off after an offside call. CSP went on to win 4-1.
Lopez got her second goal of the season with tallies now in back-to-back games. Both Canada and Gabel had two shot attempts each. Musser had a season and career-high 13 saves.
Shots in the contest were 29-9 in favor of the Bears while shots on goal were 17-3. Corner kicks were a bit closer with the Jimmies trailing just 5-3.
UJ will have their home opener on Friday, September 18 against the Minnesota State Mavericks at 3:00 p.m.
