The University of Jamestown men's soccer team is set to host the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers at Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium on Monday, August 31 at noon.
"South Dakota Mines will be another very good test for us," said head coach
Justin Gilfert. "Being the first NCAA Division-II opponent we see, this will give us an idea of where we really are as a team."
Both the Jimmies and the Hardrockers have played one game so far this season, both against Morningside at Jamestown. Back on Thursday, UJ played the Mustangs to a thrilling 0-0 draw in a game that consisted of plenty of action around the net and each team missing a penalty shot. Morningside outshot Jamestown 8-1 in shots on goal, but
Valon Ismaili had a career night with eight saves in the draw.
South Dakota Mines took down the Mustangs 3-0 on Saturday in a neutral site matchup. The Hardrockers scored just 2:50 into the game, then added two more goals in the second half. Lucas Miranda scored twice while Zach Peroff scored the other goal. South Dakota Mines won the shots on goal battle 7-4.
"South Dakota Mines had a good result against Morningside but so did we and we created the same amount of chances so it'll be a back-and-forth game," said Gilfert.

Last Time Out
The Jimmies and Hardrockers clashed in Rapid City last season. UJ opened the scoring with a goal in the sixth minute, but a late first half goal by South Dakota Mines, followed by three more in the second half pushed the Hardrockers to a 4-1 victory. Yocom had two goals and North had a goal plus an assist for the winning side.
A win tomorrow will be the first victory over South Dakota Mines since the 2012 season.
"With the schedule coming up, our legs and fitness will carry us through each game 90 minutes and if we can come out with the points, it'll be a very good start for us," Gilfert noted.
