Jimmies close out travel weekend against Rockhurst University

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team finalized their travel weekend Saturday afternoon, taking on Rockhurst University at Mason-Halpin Field House. The Jimmies competed hard throughout the match and pushed the Hawks in several stretches before Rockhurst ultimately secured the 3-0 victory by scores of 28-26, 25-18, and 25-20.

Jamestown opened the match with strong energy in a tightly contested first set. The two teams traded points throughout the frame, with neither side able to create much separation early. Offensive production from Chase Hawkinson helped the Jimmies stay in rhythm, while Ethan Carroll and Brady Leppien-Christensen contributed key plays at the net. Jamestown continued to battle late into the set and forced extra points, tying the score at 26-26 before Rockhurst closed the set with two consecutive points to take the early 1-0 lead.

The Jimmies continued to apply pressure in the second set, again finding offensive opportunities from multiple attackers. Hawkinson, Ladarius Williams, and Ethan Carroll helped keep the Jamestown attack active, and the Jimmies remained within striking distance during the early portion of the set. With the score sitting at 13-10, Rockhurst managed to create a small run that gave the hosts some breathing room. Despite continued efforts from Jamestown to close the gap, the Hawks were able to hold their advantage and claim the second set.

Jamestown carried its competitive play into the third set as the teams once again battled through several extended rallies. The Jimmies saw contributions across the lineup, including offensive production from Joshua Crowley and Cohen Johnson. Jamestown worked to stay within reach midway through the set as both teams traded points during key stretches. Rockhurst eventually gained momentum late in the set, but the Jimmies continued to push until the final points, with the Hawks ultimately securing the set 25-20 and the match.

Chase Hawkinson led Jamestown offensively with 14 kills while hitting .407 on the night. Ladarius Williams added five kills, and Rowan Shaughnessy directed the Jimmie offense with 20 assists. Ethan Carroll provided an all-around performance with two kills, one service ace, and a team-high three total blocks at the net.

Jamestown will look to carry the positives from the match forward as the Jimmies continue their road schedule, returning to action March 13 against Quincy University in Quincy, Ill.
