Jamestown N.D— The University of Jamestown softball team moved to 10-3 on the season after a tale of two games against Minot State University on Thursday at the Nelson Family Bubble. After being silenced in the opener, the Jimmie bats erupted for 17 hits in the nightcap to secure a split against the Beavers.
Game 1: Minot State 9, Jamestown 0 (5 Innings)
The opener belonged to Minot State, as the Beavers used a massive third-inning explosion to end the game early via the run rule.
The Lead: A nine-run third inning proved insurmountable for the Jimmies, who were held to just two hits in the shutout loss.
The Circle: Hope Ransome took the loss, striking out five in 2.2 innings. Maddie Hairgrove provided 2.1 innings of relief, allowing two runs.
The Bats: Lauren Weigel and Amanda Burch recorded the only hits for Jamestown.
The Turning Point: Minot State sent 13 batters to the plate in the third inning, racking up seven hits—including five doubles and a triple—to flip a scoreless tie into a 9-0 lead.
Game 2: Jamestown 9, Minot State 2
The Jimmies responded emphatically in the second game, scoring in nearly every inning to overwhelm the Beavers.
The Lead: Jamestown's offense hummed from the start, racking up nine runs on 17 hits to earn the 9-2 victory.
The Circle: Abby Blair remained perfect on the season, improving to 5-0 after allowing just one earned run over 5.0 innings. Aubrey Quern was dominant in relief, striking out four of the eight batters she faced over the final two frames.
The Bats: The top of the order was lethal, led by Trinity Gregg, who went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Maddie Spaeth added two hits, including a triple and three RBIs, while Jorja Hainsworth went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
The Turning Point: After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, the Jimmies answered immediately in the bottom half. Maddie Spaeth's two-run triple tied the game before Madelyn Webb drove her in with a single to give Jamestown a 3-2 lead they would never relinquish.
