Jimmies earn victory over SCSU

SARTELL, Minn. – The Jamestown women's tennis team secured a victory over St. Cloud State on Saturday at the Sta-Fit Tennis Center. The Jimmies claimed two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches to secure the win.

Jamestown found success at the top and bottom of the doubles lineup to edge out St. Cloud State. At the No. 1 position, the duo of Julie van Zeijl and Bodil van Zeijl earned a 7-5 win over Lara-Maria Schaefer and Liliana Ruy Sanchez. The No. 3 doubles pairing of Sydney Friesen and Mykaela Jorgenson also picked up a victory, defeating Brooklyn Broadwell and Hannah Oing 6-4.

St. Cloud State earned their lone doubles victory at the No. 2 flight, where Margarita Vinichenko and Gibby Chapman defeated Mariia Sharandachenk and Anna Sharandachenko by a score of 6-4.

The Jimmies carried their momentum into singles play, picking up four straight-set victories. Julie van Zeijl controlled the No. 1 singles match, defeating Liliana Ruy Sanchez 6-3, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Bodil van Zeijl battled to a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Margarita Vinichenko.

Jamestown also dominated the lower half of the singles lineup. At No. 4 singles, Mariia Sharandachenk cruised past Gibby Chapman 6-1, 6-1. Mykaela Jorgenson matched that scoreline at No. 6 singles, defeating Hannah Oing 6-1, 6-1.

St. Cloud State claimed points at the No. 3 and No. 5 singles flights. Lara-Maria Schaefer defeated Anna Sharandachenko 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot, and Brooklyn Broadwell secured a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Sydney Friesen at No. 5.

UJ is back in action on Sunday at the Sta-Fit Tennis Center against Minnesota State University Moorhead on Sunday at 12 p.m.
