VALLEY CITY, N.D.— The Jimmie baseball team opened its weekend conference series with Valley City State University on Friday with a pair of victories, winning 5-4 and 4-1 at Charlie Brown Field.

GAME ONE
- Jamestown led 2-0 after the first inning as Alex Alva scored after Varen Sabino reached on an error and Ryan Muizelaar stole home on the back end of a double steal.
- UJ pushed the lead to 5-0 on a two-run single by Alva and a sacrifice fly by Muizelaar.
- The Vikings got on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, then made things interesting in the bottom of the sixth with three runs to cut the Jimmies' lead to 5-4.
- Chase Burke had two hits for Jamestown.
- Avery Liestman (6-3) struck out six in 5 2/3 innings to record the win.
- Ben Bohlmann pitched 1 1/3 innings for his third save.
GAME TWO
- Ryan Muizelaar went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs while Luke Zimmer struck out a career-high 10 batters as the Jimmies completed the sweep with a 4-1 win victory.
- Ben Patton reached on a fielder's choice to score Triston Madison with UJ's first run in the second inning.
- An inning later, Muizelaar's RBI single made it 2-0, then Muizelaar hit a solo home run in the sixth as the lead grew to 3-0.
- In the eight, Muizelaar reached on an error to score Chase Burke for the fourth run of the game.
- VCSU scored once in the bottom of the eighth to avoid the shutout.
- Zimmer improved to 5-3, allowing one earned run on six hits over seven innings.
- Joe Hart worked a scoreless ninth for his third save.
