Jimmies Battled but Fell to #8 Dakota State

Jamestown, N.D. — In a Friday afternoon showdown, the University of Jamestown women's basketball team went up against  #8 Dakota State University. Despite a valiant effort and an intense atmosphere at Harold Newman Arena, the Jimmies couldn't quite secure the victory, ending the game with a score of 73-63.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jimmies had a slow start to the game due to an effective press by the Trojans and holding the Jimmies to shooting 4-11 from the field in the first
  • The Trojans finished the first quarter on a 9-0 run leaving the Jimmies trailing 25-13
  • The second quarter the game began to slow down for the Jimmies and a three pointer by Kate Cordes brought the Jimmies within seven with 3:39 left to play 
  • The Jimmies trailed 34-27 at the half 
  • In the third quarter the Jimmies battled back and a three pointer by Samantha Paulsen with 8:40 remaining left the Jimmies behind only four points
  • The Trojans answered back fast and went on a 10-3 run leaving the Jimmies behind 11 with 6:57 in the quarter 
  • A Jayden Wiest three pointer in the fourth with 7:50 remaining pulled the Jimmies within eight and lit a spark but the Trojans responded by jumping back into the press and taking a 16 point lead with 4:36 left and the Jimmies had no time for a comeback
  •   Kate Cordes led Jamestown with 21 points and four assists 
  • Jessika Lofstrom led the Jimmies with seven rebounds 
  •  Megan Oswald had a team high of three steals
