Jimmies fall just short at No. 6 Dakota State

MADISON, S.D.— The 24th-ranked University of Jamestown women's basketball team lost back-to-back games for the first time this season as their comeback attempt came up short at No. 6 Dakota State University, losing 69-63 at DSU Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Six points by Kate Cordes and four each from Hannah Hagel and Jessika Lofstrom helped stake the Jimmies to an 18-15 lead after the first quarter.
  • A 7-0 run to start the second quarter helped Dakota State take the lead at 22-18.
  • Cordes scored six straight to put the Jimmies ahead 35-29 with 2:57 before halftime.
  • Another 7-0 run by the Trojans gave them a 36-35 lead before Jayden Wiest made a three-pointer with 27 seconds remaining in the half, and Jamestown led 38-36 at the break.
  • UJ shot just 20 percent (3-for-15) overall and 1-for-10 inside the arc in the third quarter.
  • Kate Busek stopped Jamestown's scoreless streak at 6:06 of the third with a three-pointer that made it 45-41 in favor of DSU.
  • Jailyn Martinson made a pair of free throws to bring the Jimmies within 50-48 going into the fourth quarter.
  • The Trojans opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back three-pointers, pushing their lead to 8 points, eventually leading by as many as 9 with 7:50 to play.
  • A Wiest three-pointer began a 7-0 UJ run that quickly cut the deficit to 60-58 at the 5:01 mark.
  • Jamestown got as close as 64-63 following a Cordes three-pointer with 2:24 remaining, but DSU answered with a three of their own two possessions later to help put the game away.
  • Cordes led the Jimmies with 23 points and 4 assists, while grabbing 6 rebounds.
  • Jessika Lofstrom joined Cordes in double figures with 11 points and a team-high 7 rebounds off the bench.
  • Busek and Samantha Paulsen each had two steals.
