Tom Hager serves as Deputy Athletic Director of Development and Leadership at the University of Jamestown, continuing a relationship with UJ that has spanned more than three decades as a student, coach, administrator, mentor, and leader.
In his current role, Hager works alongside Athletic Director Brian Mistro to advance the department's People First. Jimmies Always. philosophy while supporting Jimmie coaches, student-athletes, alumni, donors, and the greater Jamestown community.
Hager's primary focus includes athletic development and fundraising, coach mentorship and leadership development, strategic partnerships, student-athlete success, and helping strengthen the culture of Jimmie Athletics. He also plays an important role in supporting the department's continued transition into NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Few people understand the University of Jamestown athletic experience from as many different perspectives as Hager. He has been a Jimmie student-athlete, alumnus, coach, administrator, and mentor. That experience allows him to serve as a resource for coaches while helping the department maintain the relationships and traditions that have made Jimmie Athletics special.
Hager has long believed that athletics is ultimately about people. Throughout his career, he has emphasized relationships, accountability, mentorship, and doing things the right way. His longtime philosophy of "Be First Class" continues to influence his leadership and aligns with Jimmie Athletics' commitment to putting people first while representing the University of Jamestown with pride.
Before moving full-time into athletic administration, Hager spent 27 seasons leading the Jimmie baseball program, becoming the winningest coach in program history with 869 career victories. His teams won eight regular-season conference championships, six conference tournament championships, three Region III championships, a Super Regional championship, made 11 national tournament appearances, and twice advanced to the NAIA World Series.
While those accomplishments represent an important part of Hager's career, his impact at UJ extends well beyond wins and championships. Generations of student-athletes and coaches have benefited from his mentorship, and his ability to build lasting relationships remains central to his work today.
In 2026, Hager was selected as the recipient of the University of Jamestown's Rollie Greeno Award, recognizing his commitment to education, coaching, character, leadership, and service to young people.
Hager is a 1996 graduate of Jamestown College. His career has also included coaching experiences at Michigan State University, the University of North Dakota, and with USA Athletes International.
As Deputy Athletic Director, Hager's mission is to take what he learned building a successful program and use those experiences to help all Jimmie programs, coaches, and student-athletes succeed.
