FREMONT, Neb. – Carson Brown scored 2:27 into overtime to lift the sixth-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Midland University on Friday night at Sidner Ice Arena.
Brown's game-winning goal, his 11th of the season, was assisted by
Wyatt Johnson. The victory improves the Jimmies' season record to 15-8-0.
After a scoreless opening period, Jamestown broke the deadlock on the power play at 13:49 of the second period. Matthew Mcintyre found the back of the net for his seventh goal of the year, with assists credited to
Brad Fortin and
Alek Erichuk.
Midland responded late in the middle frame, tying the game 1-1 at 17:23 on a goal by Thomas Babb, assisted by Ethan Brown. Neither team was able to score in the third period, forcing the extra session.
Jamestown controlled much of the offensive play, outshooting Midland 38-22 in the contest. Jimmie goaltender
Brandon Weare earned the win, stopping 21 of the 22 shots he faced. Midland netminder Elijah Marchese made 36 saves in the loss.
Special teams played a key role, as the Jimmies finished 1-for-3 on the power play while holding Midland scoreless on four opportunities with the man advantage.
The teams return to the ice Saturday at 7 p.m. to conclude their weekend series.
