JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Goaltender Brandon Weare stopped all 25 shots he faced to earn the shutout as the University of Jamestown men's hockey team defeated Midland University 5-0 on Friday night at John L. Wilson Arena. The Jimmies exploded for four goals in the third period to break open a tight game and secure the victory.
After a scoreless second period, Jamestown held a slim 1-0 lead heading into the final frame. The Jimmies' offense came alive in the third, with Wyatt Johnson, Darius Makse, Sully Ross, and James Hooton all finding the back of the net to put the game away.
Jordan Baranesky scored the only goal of the first period at the 15:20 mark, which would stand as the game-winner.
Makse scored on the power play at the 7:03 mark after assisting on Johnson's third-period opening goal, to make it 3-0. Ross notched his first just 2:06 afterwards, then Hooton closed out the scoring with 101 seconds to play.
Griffin Bourassa, Brad Fortin, Ray Warrack, Kaelan Shelton, Tyler Lindal, Guerin Apperley, and Matthew McIntyre were all credited with assists.
Shots ended 38-25 in favor of Jamestown, with the Jimmies enjoying a 29-14 advantage over the final two periods.
The two teams meet again Saturday night in Jamestown at 7 p.m.
