No. 7 Jimmies lose one-goal game to 11th-ranked Marauders

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – In a tightly contested battle at John L. Wilson Arena on Wednesday night, the University of Mary Marauders held off a relentless attack from the University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team to secure a 3-2 victory.

The Jimmies (11-8) outshot the visitors 41-33, but could not solve UMary goaltender Caleb Cross, who turned in a spectacular 39-save performance to anchor the Marauders (12-6) in the win.

The first period was a defensive stalemate, with neither team finding the back of the net. The action heated up significantly in the second frame. Palmer Sinclair broke the deadlock for UMary at 12:58, scoring his third of the season off assists from Amraj Gill and Hunter Mangan.

The Marauders extended their lead to 2-0 at 16:50 when Joe Gronholz tallied his eighth goal of the year, assisted by Alex Senf.

Late in the period, the game took a dramatic turn. Jamestown's Ray Warrack was assessed a five-minute major for butt-ending and a game misconduct at 17:51, putting the Marauders on an extended power play. However, it was the Jimmies who struck next. With just five seconds remaining in the period (19:55), Kaelan Shelton scored an unassisted shorthanded goal—his second of the season—to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into the intermission.

The major penalty proved costly early in the third period. Dain Sardelli restored Mary's two-goal cushion at 1:56, netting a power-play goal, his seventh, with helpers from Gill and Derek Dropik.

UJ responded quickly on a power play of their own. Trey Stephenson found the net at 5:02, assisted by Kaleb Percival and Jordan Baranesky, to bring the score to 3-2.

Despite firing 11 shots on goal in the final frame and pulling goaltender Brandon Weare for an extra attacker late in the game, the Jimmies could not find the equalizer. Weare stopped 30 of 33 shots in the loss.

Jamestown returns to action on Wednesday, December 10, hosting Minot State University at 7 p.m.
