JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Carson Brown scored two goals to lead the sixth-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over No. 1 University of Nevada-Las Vegas Thursday night at John L. Wilson Arena.
After falling 1-0 on a goal from UNLV's Caleb Strong in the first period, the Jimmies' offense came to life in the second. Brown got the Jimmies on the board at 6:52, with assists from Brad Fortin and James Hooton, to tie the game 1-1.
Late in the second period, Kaleb Percival scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal at 18:27, assisted again by Fortin, to give the Jimmies a 2-1 lead.
Brown added his second goal of the night as insurance at 17:51 of the third period, assisted by Jordan Baranesky. Matthew McIntyre sealed the win with an unassisted empty-net goal at 19:36.
Jimmie goaltender Brandon Weare had a strong performance in net, stopping 25 of 26 shots to earn the victory. UJ outshot the Rebels 36-26.
Both teams were held scoreless on the power play, with Jamestown going 0-for-6 and UNLV 0-for-1.
Jamestown returns to action on Saturday when they take on No. 12 University of Mary at Schwan Cadillac Rink at Starion Sports Complex in Mandan, N.D. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
