Jimmies complete home opener sweep of Midland

The University of Jamestown ACHA D1 Men's Hockey team played its season opener at home against Midland on Friday, September 20, and Saturday, September 21. The Jimmies beat Midland the first night, holding them to only one goal, and secured the weekend sweep on the second night, outscoring the Warriors 5-0. 

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1

  • The Warriors' first goal by Milan Breczko came 17:43 into the first period. Kole Christensson responded with a Jimmie goal less than a minute later, assists to Brad Fortin and Griffin Bourassa, leaving the teams tied at the end of the first. 
  • A Jimmie penalty was called for cross-checking eight minutes into the second period. Brad Fortin (unassisted) scored the shorthanded goal 38 seconds later. Fortin's goal concluded Jimmie scoring for the second period and Midland's scoring for the rest of the game. 
  • Kaelan Shelton scored the Jimmies third goal off a power play due to a Warrior tripping penalty. The Warriors pulled their goalie with two minutes remaining, and Keaton Cline scored the Jimmies fourth and final goal on the Warriors' empty net.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2 

  • Jordan Baranesky scored the first goal for the Jimmies 12 minutes into the first period. Assists went to Alek Erichuk and Keaton Cline. The Jimmie defense was able to fend off Warrior scoring, putting them up 1-0. 
  • The Jimmies scored three times in the second period. The first came from Cole Christensson (assist Brayden Michalchuk). Brenden Vulcano hit the second off a power play (assist Erichuk), and Michalchuk added the third (assist Phillipe Lessard). 
  • Baranesky scored the fifth and final goal (assists Cline and Erichuk), completing the weekend sweep. 

FOR THE JIMMIES

  • The Jimmies outshot the Warriors 91 to 50.
  • The Jimmies were 2-9 on power plays for the weekend.
  • Brandon Weare had 49 total saves.

FOR THE WARRIORS

  • The Warriors were 0-9 on power plays for the weekend.
  • Liam Tereposky had 82 total saves.
