The University of Jamestown ACHA D1 Men's Hockey team moved up one in the rankings to sit at number five and defeated the number four-ranked Ohio University Bobcats on Thursday night. This is the Jimmies third straight win against top 10 ranked teams, beating the University of Mary last Saturday and Minot State two days before. A made penalty shot by Carter Johnson put the Jimmies ahead of a tie and set the tone for the remainder of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jordan Baranesky (assist Alek Erichuk) scored five minutes into first-period play. The Bobcats turned around and scored their own five minutes later. Carter Johnson (assists Brad Fortin and Matthew Poole) executed on a Jimmie power play with 30 seconds left in the first, putting the Jimmies up one.
- The Bobcats tied the score 7:31 into the second period. Almost seven more minutes later, the Jimmies had been unable to score. But a tripping call on the Bobcats awarded Carter Johnson with a penalty shot.
- After Johnson's penalty shot goal, the Bobcats did not score again, but the Jimmies extended their lead to three in the third period.
- Fortin took a pass from Brayden Michalchuk to score the Jimmies fourth goal, and Jordan Baranesky took the puck to the net to score the Jimmies fifth and final of the night.
- Fortin and Baranesky's goals put them both with eight on the season.
